JT Units

JT Units:

"JT"is an abbreviation for Joule-Thompson effect. Cooling occurs when a non-ideal gas expands from high pressure to low pressure. The process of expanding gas to produce cooling is not considered to be an energy efficient cooling process but can be very cost effective when excess pressure is available for free. JT unit condenses and removes the heavier component hydrocarbon in the inlet gas stream and reduces the gallons of liquefiable hydrocarbon per Mscf content and thus, reducing the temperature at which free Natural Gas Liquids might form. The amount of Natural Gas Liquids recovered is a function of the gas composition, pressure, temperature, pressure drop available across the JT valve.

The JT assembly provides hydrocarbon dew point control and increased recovery of Natural Gas Liquids (NGL). If these NGLs are not effectively reduced the produced natural gas may be undesirable to pipeline transportation and commercial use.

Cutter USA JT Plant consists of a gas-to-gas heat exchanger with hot gas bypass, liquid-to-gas heat exchanger, JT valve, cold separator, methanol injection system and control system, all mounted on a single skid for simple installation and mobility.
